As before, we preferred to avoid evidence, such as VLC, Mozilla Firefox and other Gimp and LibreOffice, in order to highlight generally less known solutions.

1/ NextCloud: Cloud storage (in particular) without gafam
Store content in Microsoft or Google infonual solutions is simple. However, between the amount of storage limited in free version and the control problems on our own data, it may be interesting to go and see elsewhere to keep our files safe. This is where NextCloud and its self-hosting solution for professional or personal uses come in. Secure and specially designed for the collaborative content management, NextCloud is just as simple to use. The firm even offers other collaborative tools worthy of those of Google (agenda, cat, email, word processor, etc.).
2/ Greenshot: the simple and modular screenshot
On a computer, it is certainly not the screenshot solutions that are missing. Everyone will have their preference for specific needs that all of them do not cover exactly the same way. For our use on Windows, namely to quickly take captures of windows, games or areas, we have a preference for Greenshot. With the possibility of choosing the format of the capture, the location of the backup or the keyboard shortcuts to use for each action, this software does exactly what we need, without frills.
3/ Pikatorrent: Simple and refined download
As with the above application, solutions to download torrents abound, including open source. To change the very effective QbitTorrent, make way for Pikatorrent. Presented as software embracing modernity, it is easy to use by all thanks to its clear interface. Among its features that all customers do not offer, there is in particular remote control or even a search engine to find torrents directly within it.

4/ Localsend: the alternative for the sharing of local files
We are in the year of grace 2025 and share files between different devices, operating in particular under different operating systems, is too often a ordeal. It is to solve this problem that Localsend was created. Cross-platform, this free and free application allows you to easily send files in a decentralized and secure manner between nearby computers and mobile devices. 6/ Newpipe: a light YouTube client, good for health
Difficult today to avoid YouTube to consume online videos. A monopoly all the more embarrassing as the Google solution is today crumbling under advertisements if we refuse to go to Premium. On PC, it is possible to a certain extent to avoid them with advertising blockers, but on mobile, it’s more complicated. This is where Newpipe, an Android customer who wants to be light and compatible with YouTube, but also Peertube, Soundcloud or Bandcamp. Many features are there, such as off-line reading or in the background. It remains to be hoped that the solution remains functional in the long term.
7/ Bitwarden: the password manager to secure your privacy
Once again, the choice is massive when it comes to password managers. For this selection, we have chosen Bitwarden, but many other solutions, open source Or not, are worth the glance (at Proton, for example). Free and very inexpensive in premium for personal or professional use, this software covers all usual uses and is available on a very large number of devices.
8/ Audile: Forget Shazam and Apple!
Not to be confused with the audible audio book service, Audile is an alternative to Shazam to recognize music. Based on the Audd and Acrcloud services to identify the songs, this solution for Android allows you to know the information of a track (name, artist, album, links to musical services, etc.) in case of recognition. The latter can also take place even when the Internet is missing thanks to a listening recording. If you no longer want to go through the solution now belonging to Apple, that’s all you need.
9/ Signal: Instant messaging otherwise
Here is a small exception in this file in the features of software a little better known than the average. The reasons to leave Meta’s instant messaging applications (WhatsApp and Messenger) and other mainstream solutions (Discord, Telegram, etc.) exist. If this is your case, or you simply want to use the most secure service today, Signal Direction. Available everywhere and largely with the same features as its competitors, this free solution and open source emphasizes confidentiality and protection of privacy with additional features and safety layers.
10/ Loop: Take good habits with this application

This Android app for the refined interface is there to help you create and hold your long -term goals. Charts and statistics are also available to find out how your habits are evolving over time. Without advertising and obviously open sourcethis may be the app you need. Only it is missing more platforms and the management of bad habits.

Let’s finish with a little entertainment… great classic of valve released in 2007, the multiplayer FPS Team Fortress 2 will have evolved enormously over the years. In 2025, in addition to being free on Steam (we would have preferred Gog And his absence of DRM to stick with the philosophy of this file, but too bad), the game is now open source To allow the community to do it absolutely anything and anything, including other games based on it.
