Microsoft confirmed the existence of a bug affecting audio on several versions of Windows. Provided by the security update of January 2025, this dysfunction makes sound inoperative on many PCs.
This problem particularly affects those who use a digital-analyzed converter (DAC) connected in USB, especially with a USB 1.0 audio driver. The versions concerned include Windows 11 (24h2, 11:2 p.m., 10:2 p.m.) and Windows 10. As a result of this problem, the peripheral manager can display the following error: “This device cannot start. (Code 10) System resources are insufficient to complete the API ”.
A surprising bug, from a simple update
Windows Latest was the first to go up this malfunction, which was then confirmed by Microsoft. Depending on the company, the January 2025 update can cause problems with certain USB audio devices. “If you use a DAC based on a USB 1.0 driver, you are more likely to be affected”therefore explains Microsoft.
Later, Microsoft published the optional cumulative update KB5050094, supposed to solve this problem (at least, on Windows 11 24h2). As this is an optional update, you will be asked if you wish to install it by clicking on the link “Download and install”.
If you still do not see this update, a temporary solution exists: disconnect your DAC and directly connect your helmet or your speakers to your PC. Some indicate that uninstall and reinstall audio drivers or restore a previous version of Windows can temporarily solve the problem. But these manipulations do not guarantee systematic success.
With the stop of the Windows 10 support scheduled for next October, this kind of inconvenience could become more frequent.
